Wisconsin Literacy

The Literacy Council of Wood County (LCWC) is a member of Wisconsin Literacy, Inc.

Wisconsin Literacy is a statewide agency formed in 1985 as a coalition of adult, family, and workplace literacy providers.

Wisconsin Literacy’s vision is to strengthen Wisconsin’s workforce, families and communities through literacy by supporting adult, family and workplace literacy programs statewide through program and resource development, information and referral, training, and advocacy.

Each fall, Wisconsin Literacy sponsors the “1200 Tutors in 12 Weeks” recruitment campaign, helping promote literacy initiatives throughout Wisconsin. In 2011, the LCWC recruited and trained over 30 new Tutors.

In addition, Wisconsin Literacy launched the Wisconsin Health Literacy initiative. In 2011, the LCWC participated with both organizations by offering two “Shoo the Flu” programs attempting to reach vulnerable populations.
